History

The original Friends of the Library group led by Eunice Gray was the first sponsor of Sanger Public Library when it was founded in 1970. In fact, the library was entirely volunteer-operated for over 15 years with Mrs. Gray serving as librarian! In 1986, the library became a City of Sanger department and Vicky Elieson was hired as library director.

The Sanger Public Library moved from the old Sanger Presbyterian Church to its current home in 1995 at:
501 Bolivar Street
Sanger, TX 76266

At that time Mrs. Gray, still in charge of the original Friends of the Library group, allowed a newer volunteer group, the Sanger Library Adult Volunteers, Etc. to instead take charge of the original Friends of the Library group.
