Donation Policy - July 2018 Update

Due to a high volume of book donations and limited on-site space, the library is limiting the number of walk-in donations until further notice.

  • We are accepting walk-in donations of up to two medium size boxes or tote bags.
  • For larger donations (three medium size boxes/tote bags or more), please contact the library at 940-458-3257 to schedule a donation time.  This allows us to ensure we have space and staff available to receive your donation.
  • There are items that the library does not accept, including:
    • Large multi-volume sets, such as encyclopedias
    • Magazines and periodicals
    • Damaged items, especially those with water damage
  • The library reserves the right to refuse donations for a variety of reasons, including: condition, volume of materials being donated, and available staff.

The library accepts donations of books and audiovisual materials in good condition. Not all items donated will be added to the collection. Those not put in the library’s collection may be included in the Friends of the Library book sale, sold online, given away, or possibly recycled. We are unable to return items not selected for the collection, or the boxes/bags/totes used to transport them to the library.

We will accept up to four medium size boxes (up to 18”x 14”x 11” and maximum of 30 pounds) of books and audiovisual materials at a time. Those with larger donations will need to make an appointment. The library reserves the right to refuse donations. We cannot accept the following:

  • Multivolume encyclopedias or other large sets
  • Items with more than light wear & tear, especially water damage (mold spreads easily!)
  • No more than a year’s worth of magazines

A standard donation form for tax purposes will be provided upon request. We do not give itemized lists or appraisals of the value of items donated.

We ask that donations be brought into the library during our regular hours.  Please do not leave donations in the dropbox outside: this helps ensure that library materials and donations alike do not get damaged or mixed up.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
